My grandfather simply called this place “Les Granges” (The Barns). This name, passed down from generation to generation, reflects the family’s deep attachment to this former outbuilding of the estate. It is also very likely that these barns gave their name to the street where they now stand, preserving the memory and history of this unique place. Today, the estate bears the name of Bellavevra, in tribute to the thousand-year-old history of the village. The first written record dates back to 1089, under the name Ecclesia Bellevavre, in the archives of the prestigious Abbey of Baume-les-Messieurs. However, the origins of the name are much older, dating back to the Gallo-Roman period. Derived from bella vevre, it evokes a “beautiful floodplain”, but also the scrubland and woodland that once shaped this landscape. This rich history is part of an environment marked by the presence of five Roman roads that crossed near the village, notably linking Verdun-sur-le-Doubs to Poligny, as well as Dole to Louhans and Lons-le-Saunier. For centuries, Bellevesvre has therefore been a place of passage, encounters, and exchanges. Today, Domaine Bellavevra continues this tradition of hospitality by opening its doors to travellers seeking authenticity, serenity, and comfort. Set within a characterful property that has been fully renovated, our guest rooms invite you to enjoy a peaceful retreat, where heritage, nature, and the French art of living come together.
A Heritage-Friendly Renovation
The renovation of Domaine Bellavevra is the result of more than ten years of dedicated work, guided by one constant ambition: to preserve the soul and character of the original building while providing the comfort and amenities expected from contemporary accommodation.
Every intervention was carefully considered to respect the authenticity of the property. Traditional materials, architectural features, original volumes, and the unique atmosphere of the place have been preserved and enhanced, allowing the history of the estate to live on while creating a warm, elegant, and welcoming environment.
Naturally bioclimatic by design, thanks to its orientation, architecture, and the thickness of its walls, the building provides excellent thermal comfort throughout the year. Heating is provided by two low-temperature underfloor heating systems, ensuring gentle, even, and energy-efficient warmth.
Committed to combining heritage and innovation, we have also equipped the estate with a complete smart home system. Roller shutters, lighting, heating, and security features are intelligently controlled, providing our guests with optimal comfort, efficient energy management, and complete peace of mind throughout their stay.
